Teabag Trick? Empty Teabag Trick?

Post  Laura Sat Dec 08, 2012 1:32 am

Heeeelp! Sad

My nail has broken horrendously, about halfway down - can anyone give an idiot's guide to the "teabag trick" that I keep hearing about? It's just a little split at the moment but I can see it getting worse...

I've got my Christmas party this evening and I want fab nails! Very Happy

It's dead easy. You just need nail glue/superglue, teabag and a buffer.

Cut a small piece of the teabag to cover the split. If it's just a minor split you can use the inner part of the tea bag, if it needs more support use a piece of the rim of the teabag as its thicker and the repair will hold for longer. Put a small amount of glue over the split and put the teabag piece on. Let it dry for a couple of minutes then add some more glue. You need to make sure all of the teabag piece is saturated with the glue. Let it dry fully then start buffing. I usually use a really fine emery board first to smooth it out, then buff, buff and buff again. Hold it up to the light. Can you see the edges of the patch? If so, buff again until you can't.

Once it's painted you shouldn't be able to see it. If in doubt, add glitter, that'll cover it.

Enjoy the party x

I'm glad to hear the teabag trick worked for you Laura and I hope you enjoyed your Christmas party. Smile My nail broke on Friday too while I was playing air hockey but I couldn't save it as it broke off in two pieces. Crying or Very sad

My nails were getting too long to type with so I had to trim mine down over the weekend. But hopefully they'll be long by Christmas so I can attempt Christmas mani's!

urgh, nail broke but for once I'm at home so I'm giving this a shot. Plus I get a cup of tea out of it for my efforts.

My nail may end up smelling of tea...

I love, love, love this tip. One of my thumbnails has the hair of splitting a tiny bit around halfway down the edge and this helps keep things together until the split grows up to the tip. Without this tie k the nail always ends up breaking off and exposing the nail bed.
