How do I make ......

Hi everyone, what experiences do you have of creating your own polishes? I have been looking around for a red glitter in a transparent clear top coat, all I can find here in my part of Spain is a sort of sparkle in red polish, so I thought i might try to make make my own.
Do I just add christmas type glitter to a clear topcoat, shake and apply or is there more to it than that?

You need to test if you glitter bleeds, do a small small with you glitter and some clear nail polish. If the liquid remains clear you are fine to go ahead. I usually add glitter to existing polishes rather than clear as I find it suspends better as I don't have suspension fluid. Shake very vigorously if the glitter sinks to the bottle. Get small ball bearings to add tot he bottle to help with the shaking.

Apparently trag gum a cooking item can act as a suspension thickener but I have never tried it.
My Spectraflair topcoat needs a massive shaking but the prettiness is more than worth it.

For ultra glam glitter you could also try a red base coat colour, allow to dry then put a base top over it and loose dust your glitter on. Wait. While then brush over the excess and seal with a high shine top coat. Very simple but looks a,asking.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry to sound dim but ¨suspension fluid¨ & trag gum, sounds a bit too complicated for me. I just needed something quick and easy for halloween..Thinking along the lines of black with a red glitter over the top or as tips

I've tried adding glitter to clear polish once but like Jasmina said it just bled into the clear polish and looked a mess. I'd stick with loose glitter if I were you. You can buy some gorgeous ones on ebay for tuppence ha'penny. Like this one...

If you only want it for one manicure, maybe you could mix clear top coat and red glitter in a little dappen dish or something and use it straight away, as I've found it usually takes a few hours to start bleeding. I have no idea if this would actually work, but might be worth a try...?

Thanks looks lovely but they want 3pounds to send it to me here in Spain. Might just try Sam´s suggestion.

Let us have a pic when you've tried it. I don't think I've ever tried red glitter over black.
