What do you use to mend a broken nail? also dotting
Just noticed my thumbnail has started to crack across, about half way down. It´s only a little damaged at the moment, any ideas how to repair it succesfully? Or do I cut the nail short and wait for it to grow out? (which is what I normally do)
Also my set of dotting tools arrived via Ebay this morning, how do I use them please?

Hi Sandy. I use nail glue and either a small piece of tissue or a piece of teabag to repair a crack or break. If you Google it you'll get lots of results, but here's a couple of links you might find useful:

It's pretty simple and actually quite effective especially if it's just a small split. I hope it works for you.

I can vouch for the tea bag solution - with nail glue or superglue if you have none.
I've managed to keep a very badly (and potentiallly painful) split under control for a fortnight and, with ridge filler and varnish, pretty well hidden.

Thanks for that. Years ago, I used to use a nail repair system which used a tissue like ´fabric´which went over the crack, but never found it successful....seemed to be too thick.
Didn´t think of Google, only all you experts on here
If it gets worse I might try the teabag, as there´s about 1/4 inch before the split reaches the top of my thumb

I don't tend to use a teabag, I just use some superglue. I *touchwood* haven't had a bad split for a while but I had a shocking one on my thumb a few months ago and superglue and a bit of buffing where the glue was, kept that under control until it grew out.
DOTTING: (I LOVE DOTTING)
Get a scrap piece of paper, and blob some polish on that, then dip your dotter into that, then dot onto your nails. Clean your dotter (wipe with a cotton pad soaked in polish remover) every few goes so it doesn't go too gloopy.
