Argh! Help please!

Post  kissmenow9 on Mon Nov 12, 2012 8:58 am

I've just broken my little finger nail straight across about half way down Shocked

It's bleeding, but still attached (I think, I can't tell - I've got dark green nail varnish on)

WHAT DO I DO!

How did you manage that?!

If there is no saving it then try to cut it of gently?!

Is it broken all the way across?

Could you maybe try the teabag trick? I've never done this so I have no idea what to do, but I'm sure google knows. And...er...maybe don't go near it with acetone until it's grown out...ouch.

I think - after gentlely getting the nail varnish off - it's split about 3/4s of the way across.

Here's a pic:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The thick green line is a definite break and the little thin one is just kinda where it's bent I think?

I managed to haul my heavy suitcase, laptop and handbag all the way to Milton Keynes from Bangor, and back again, when I got into my bedroom and triumphantly dumped all my stuff on the floor I dropped the laptop case on my finger Mad

NB - I don't have any nail glue Sad

I'm probably not much help, so I don't know why I'm trying lol - my nails grow so fast that when I get a break like that it's gone in a few days. But if it was me I'd just cut it down as short as I could so I didn't catch it on anything until the break grew out.

Ouch! Sad I reckon you should be able to save the nail. Carefully put a plaster on it until you can get to the shops and buy some nail glue, then patch it up using glue and the teabag trick. Hopefully that should buy you some time while it grows out - at least it's not a finger you use frequently so there's less chance of catching it further.

Ok, so I've got the teabag on it (did it with a basecoat instead)

How do I get it off? It's peeling at the bottom and I've got some nail glue now so I can do it properly.

It depends on how bad the break is; if the nail is split but still well attached you should be able to gently take the teabag off with polish remover and repair the break properly with glue. Personally I would still use the teabag even with the nail glue as it strenthens the area around the break. However, if the nail is quite fragile don't take the teabag off - leave it on and just paint some glue and base coat over what is already there. Add another coat every few days and hopefully that should give it enough time to grow a bit.

I'm a nail tech! So take my advice!

Head over to your local salon and ask for a silk or fibreglass wrap on the nail. They basically put some silk or fibreglass over your nail and set it in glue. It looks lovely and makes sure your nail doesn't split any further.

Hope this helps x
