I've just read on a blog that they have been trying PVA Glue as a base coat for glitter polish.
They put the PVA on the nail and when it's dry, just load on the glitter polish. Then when it comes down to removing, just soak hands in warm water and peel off!

I think I will be trying this one! I LOVE glitters, but not the removal.

I read on the old mse thread about using tin foil to remove glitters!! It really works and I now wear glitters a lot more than I used to. I soak a cotton wool pad with remover, place it on the nail and then get a trip of tin foil and wrap around my nail and the cotton wool, leave for 10 mins and pull off the tin foil with cotton wool and all the glitter comes off! No more scratched nails. I think I might have also watched a you tube video on it.
Like you I'm intrigued by the pva glue!

I think I might try this weekend...if it works, it will save the mess of tinfoil and cotton wool!

I use a peel off varnish as my base coat with glitters.

Is that the Andrea Fulerton one ? I was worried that a colour peel off varnish would spoil the glitter and show through if it is a pale glitter ?

I spotted this (Essence peel off base coat) when browsing in a local shop last night – I haven’t tried it yet, but did a google and the reviews look pretty good! I’ll give it a go this weekend when I’ve got time (TV time watching the Paralympics, woohoo!) – if it works well it’ll be amazing for glitter nails Very Happy

I only saw this post when I got home after buying it – it does look like the essence one is PVA based from some of the blogs? I’m sure you ladies are well ahead of me in knowing about this – my fault for not keeping up with the MSE posts Smile

Last Christmas I covered my nails in craft glitter. I don't know how long it took to get off, all I know is I almost lost the will the live. PVA has got to be worth a go.

Yeah, apparently the Essance peel off base coat is just pva glue!

Dumb question, but won't it just peel off if you had a long shower or something?

In my experience at work with PVA it doesn't really soak off with water, we have to leave the glue pots to soak overnight and still peel it off. Obviously plastic pots aren't nails but I think you would still have to peel it off.
Will have a go when I go back to work and get some glue.

My peel off base coat was an old Maybelline one but I've had Lancome in the past too. Neither have had that oily sheen of PVA and both have been transparent in the bottle. The Maybelline one is much thinner than PVA. I'll definately give the PVA a try though!

Sorry to bump this up but I'm getting fed up with the tinfoil method. So I've just been to our local craft shop and bought the last bottle of pva glue!

Will try this tonight. Hopefully it won't peel off when I wash me hair tomorrow!! Lol

Do we know if this causes any damage to the nail plate? I know it's non toxic but I wonder if with prolonged use it could cause problems.

I used to paste this on my face to make pimples and fake skin when I was a kid at school. Can't remember anything bad happening.

Oh, I got told off, but that doesn't count.

Wow! Had my glitter polish on for two days. Just taken then off, took 2 mins and peeled right off!! Very chuffed! Much better than sat here for 20 odd mins getting it off with tin foil etc!

I tried the PVA trick and one of my nails peeled right off while I was getting dressed. Laughing It does work brilliantly though, you can just peel it off dry.

Just wanted to post a quick thank you for this great tip. I bought a tube of the glue at the weekend which I applied with a disposable lip brish from Sally's.

Yesterday, I wore China Glaze Glitter Goblin and removed it when I got in as it had started to lift at the edges - probably more my error than the glue. I just soaked my fingers for a minute or so and it came off with an orange stick.

Today I'm wearing a Sally Hansen glitter that I bought in the US. It's beautiful but I've put off wearing it because I knew would be a b*gger to get off. I'm quite confident that it will peel off easily after a soak though.

Ok, so the manicures won't last a week as normal but it does mean that I can get through my group of untrieds!

I've only had a nail peel off once when I was peeling potatos! Otherwise it's great, I love putting glitter on now and like you it doesn't put me off using glitters. Knowing I don't have to sit there with tin foil on my fingers every few days is great!
