Not mine, but OHs.

He jammed it in the car door a couple of months ago (and my son inadvertently locked the door so it was squashed for a fair few seconds, OH squealed so uncontrollably that I thought it was my daughter!) and it went 50/50 jet black and normal. Then half fell off....

Oh gosh that is awful, that will take so long to grow back. Hope he can get suitable covering for it to protect the nail bed.

Eww my OH has ripped his thumb nail off before. Luckily it grew back!

Ouch, poor bloke. I'm squeamish but I couldn't help but look....
If this happened a couple of months ago, it doesn't look as though it is starting to grow back yet. Perhaps he should try gently rubbing almond oil into it to stimulate the blood flow to the nail bed.

I'll suggest it Babafette, but he'll probably ask me if I'm taking the ****!. Man doesn't feel the need to have an entire nail whilst the remaining half is still just as effective for picking his nose. !
