Nail It! Magazine Empty Nail It! Magazine

Post  shoppingaddict Thu Feb 28, 2013 4:48 am

So this is a new magazine dedicated to nails. Mainly US based I would imagine but thought it would be an interesting read nonetheless. Apparently according to the website it's sold in the UK in S Smiths, which I have to admit must mean WH Smiths.

Has anyone seen it? Does anyone pass a Smiths that they could pop in and look to see 1. If its sold in there and 2. If so is it any good?!

My nearest store is in the town centre which is a pain to get too and I don't fancy the trip for no reason!!! Lol Hate paying to park!

I couldn't find it in any Smiths so I just bought a subscription. It's had loads of positive tweets so I just risked paying out for a whole year without seeing it first!

I brought this today from my local wh smiths.
It was £4.
It's quite good, given me some ideas for some nail art, I'm thinking of doing a subscription to it.
It's a 2 monthly magazine I think (the one I have says march/April issue) and its $32 for a years subscription for international orders.
It has free nail wraps inside, 6 different patterns.

I got my first issue today (the second issue) and before I say anything else I will say I'm glad I subscribed and I will definitely be renewing my subscription next year.

They have awful customer service! No answer to numerous emails after problems subscribing and no answer to tweets or Facebook messages!

The magazine is good - lots of adverts but also lots of interesting articles, tutorials and articles about bloggers.

Really good for inspiration and finding new products to try!

You need to make sure before you read it that you are going to be willing to see products that you may not be able to get in the UK or products that cost a lot to get in the UK. You also need to able to curb your envy to read about some fab salons they have in America Smile

Overall a good magazine, worth the money and I'm glad I subscribed.

Who have people subscribed through? I can see a few options.

Alternatively is it the sort of thing people are going to keep or does anyone want to consider selling them on to me after you've done? I'm guessing they would post large letter. I only thought of this as I saw one had sold on ebay in the US.
I can't believe how much cheaper the US subscription is - unless I've misread its $12ish for a whole year! Grrr. Shipping from the US isn't that expensive is it?

I would say most people would want to keep them but I can't speak for everyone Smile

At the moment the subscription is 65% off (I'm assuming until they're more well known?) I subscribed through their website and it was about $32 which I thought was good but obviously I'm disappointed it wasn't $12 for me as well Very Happy

To be honest, I didn't think the magazine was up to much. I've only seen the first issue, so I don't know if the second is any better, but most of it's just adverts (23 pages of ads before even the contents page, and they're mostly for brands you can't get hold of very easily over here. I think it could've been so good, but they just don't seem to have anything of substance in there. There are only three nail art tutorials which I thought was a shame.

The second issue is the same, 20-odd pages of adverts until the contents. You would definitely have to be prepared to shell out a lot of money to get some of the products they show and obviously they feature salons etc that us UK dwellers can't visit. There were a couple of good articles though and some bloggers featured etc. I can't compare it to the first one because I couldn't find it ANYWHERE!

I suppose it's still good to flick through for ideas, I just haven't bought magazines for ages and thought £4 was loads for what you get. I've since bought wedding magazines and realised £4 is not loads...

They have it in WH smiths in Manchester city centre and Sam says exactly what I wanted to say about it which is why I spent my £4 in Boots instead !

I didn't realise it was £4 in the shops or direct from them. the places I was looking at were asking £5.60! That's why I couldn't face buying even one in the end.
I shall see if I can get someone to get me one from a decent sized WHS insterad I think.

Ah yes Sam, but if you are in that very short period when you can legitimately buy wedding mags you are most definitely entitled to do so, sod the price, revel in the weddingy loved up gorgeousness of dresses, flowers, shoes, cakes while you can! There will be plenty stood behind you in the newsagents with a wee glint of envy as you reach for the fat white glossy ones with the all the beautiful things inside....... Laughing

Haha well I haven't been holding back buying them. Only problem is I've got them all stacked on the arm of the sofa and there was a bit of a landslide the other day... I like to make sure my ring catches the light as I reach out to pick up the magazines as well :p

After a lot of searching and a plea to friends around the country on Facebook, I finally managed to get the first edition of Nail It and my subscribed edition 2 arrived at the weekend.

I love all things nails so I found it entertaining and an enjoyable read. There are a lot of adverts though - I still like to look at them but it is frustrating to see a product that looks amazing on to find it's impossible to get unless you pay huge amounts.

I think being a new magazine, it will progress with each edition. I can already see a difference between editions 1 and 2.

By the way, I have found their customer service to be pretty good after I had issues trying to pay for the subscription, I contacted them through facebook and they were quick to respond and assist

That's what I'm hoping, that it progresses and gets even better. I couldn't get issue one though so I had no comparison but good to hear there are differences already!

I'm glad you had no issues with customer service, indicates it was possibly teething problems or something rather than lack of care Smile
