Holidays - packages v DIY
Now I must be stupid and/or missing summit. Everyone says that it's better to book holidays separately rather than as a package as its cheaper.
Well flights ALONE to grand canaria are £424 for 2 people before baggage is added on! I can get an AI package holiday for that?!
Also on Ryan air website at the moment it's offering cheap flights on its homepage. Click through and it gives a list of countries and prices. For example lanzarote £58, click on that and the link goes nowhere!!!
WHAT THE GOD DAMNED HELL?!! Help me!?!

Depends what your after.
I've sold packages, teletext holidays ( the older days of proper teletext when people used to come home from the pub on a Friday deciding on a holiday, used to make soooo much commission of them!) and I worked at flight centre.
With the rise of easy jet and the like people twigged the amount packages were making and went for DIY. Over the years the package companies had to respond and are better value.
So if your looking for a week or 2 in the sun, pool, 1 hotel and some food included - a package may be cheaper. First choice and similar have their own planes and some hotels and will actually make more on selling them separately. Plus with a package you get the transfer and a rep if need help out there.
If your into travelling around then DIY always pretty much gteed cheaper than your contiki and group tours but again no local support.
Never buy insurance through any travel company though the mark up is huge. Shop online for insurance always.

I don't work in res anymore not for a few years. Your best bet is to try kayak, icelolly or even the teletext web site for deals.
A week in June, no school holidays - you should find something easy! You used to be able to get last min deals to Tenerife on the late Friday flights that families avoided and the party goers and lager louts loved.

On MSE the sites you mention seem to have a bit of a bad reputation. I've even been looking at groupon! Lol
I'll try and stick it out a little longer and see where we end up.

Bad rep for what? They are just agents for the big package companies like first choice, tui/Thompson, Thomas cook etc
If its the sales that have a bad rep fair enough, if its because people had a shit holiday then its the travel company at fault. Those companies have been going for years. But if your worried try the actually holiday companies web sites themselves. These are the giant ones:
Thomas cook,
Thompson,
First choice,
Cosmos
A good agent is co-op travel as well - been going for years.
If you make sure the place you buy from is ABTA bonded the your covered if the company goes broke as well, any decent company will be/ has to be ABTA bonded.

I think for selling the hols. People call up and the price will go up, which is kinda fair enough, but then people were getting called back a few days later to be told that the price of flights or hotel or whatever has gone up.
I'm always nervous and myself and tend to err on the side of caution!

To be honest I've never known an agency not pull that trick, problem with commission selling someone quotes you something, find another company selling it and make them price match. Agents hate that, but you get the right price
I hope you find something cheap and fab, positive you will though

Package holidays are so much easier in my opinion as it's all with one company and is far less hassle. I hope you find something shoppingaddict.

OH wants to go to the canarys, but I'm not that fussed. Trouble is I can't find anything decent AI for under £400, and the prices seem to be going up closer we get!
Re: Holidays - packages v DIY
Booked my hols! Week all in to futureventura for £425 each. Prices just keep going up and I lost my nerve! Booked through lowcostholidays which has good reviews. Got my flight confirmation through but not the accommodation yet.

Correlajo is where I have always wanted to stop, but we are too lazy to take the hire car there and end up at Caleta ( three times)
Re: Holidays - packages v DIY
