Festival Nails

I'm off to Glastonbury on Wednesday and need some cool festival nails to keep me going over the week, if anyone would care to indulge me with some inspiration

have any brands come up with a mud-textured polish yet

Hahaha after the last Glastonbury mud would be very apt!

mud effect would probably look a lot nicer than the congealed porridge and baby-sick efforts we've been spoiled with over the last few months too

mod nails - pale blue with navy blue white and red bullseyes/ union jacks etc.

Or all out and out flower power nails maybe in neon!

Neon water marble - nice and psychedelic!

I don't know if I'm brave enough to attempt water marbling, I've never done it before!

I suck at watermarble. The few attempts I have tried take me all evening. Apart from once, when I managed in a lunch time. Was a flook though.

You could do splatter neon nails? might have a similar effect.

Good - no. Acceptable - just about, and I think it's great fun. 
I'd second the neon water marble, I reckon you'd love it Laura.

I might attempt it on Tuesday then

Some sort of glitter....or something else hard-wearing....oh and dark....to hide any dirt under your nails

I like water marbling, though I've not done it for a while.  I think a swirly water marble would be perfect for a festival.  Loads of tutorials on youtube. It's quite easy really.

oooh thats good Starry. If the weather is shit tomorrow I might have another go at Watermarble. I feel inspired.

I would do neon and white stamped with a cow pattern and because I am glitter obsessed a light silver glitter topcoat to dazzle in the sun.

I might even attempt a tie dye pattern on the nails.

Awww that's stunning, can you tell me which polishes are good for doing the marbling?

It's trial and error really, some work better than others.  I've always found Nails Inc work well for marbling.

I think the most important thing is the water though, bottled or filtered and it needs to be room temp.

Oh so I can't just use tap water?

I did a tutorial a while ago for dry water marbling, which I find a bit easier?  Might be useful x

I am definitely going to have a go at that. How long did it take your polish to be dry enough?

I used tap water and it was fine.  Temperature was important and we're in a very hard water area if that's relevant?

I always pour the water the night before so it is definitely room temperature.  I just find it so hit and miss to get it right, so stick to the dry method now.

The only thing with the dry method is I have no idea how I'd cut it to fit my nails :/

I put a base colour on (using the lightest colour I use in the water marble) and then just cut out the shape of the base of my nail and width, and then put it on and then file the ends off, so it doesn't need to be perfect shape.  Also, they do stretch a little bit too so you don't need to be perfect.

Ooh OK definitely having a go tonight! I've got one of those little bags but I'll have to cut it in half to get enough area I think.

I've done it with tap water before, it does work but bottled/filtered works better.
