Shoe help needed!
OK, I reckon you lot are as good at shoe shopping as you are at polish shopping, so I wonder if you could offer me some advice here.
I need a really really comfy pair of shoes for lots of walking on holiday, probably this type of weather.
Now the tricky bits.......
I have uber wide feet, I need them to be dead flat, I only do leather or natural materials, no open toes yet (too chilly), I rarely wear shoes with backs so any backs would have so be soft on my delicate little heels or they'd rub. The sole has to be substantial, I hate feeling the pavement through my shoes - I don't want to be showing my socks either! I don't follow fashion, but neither am I quite ready for retirement wear.
I currently only wear DM shoes or boots in the winter (but they're too heavy for full days of walking) or Oxygen sandals in the summer.
I've looked at Camper, Art (a bit too pricey really) and Alegria so far and nothing's grabbed me yet........
Any ideas gratefully received

As much of a shoe addict as I am, I only do silly heels! Sorry Loola, but I hope you find something!

PMSL, err not too picky then Loola! Have you looked at FitFlops? They do boots and clogs, failing that maybe you should get a pair of proper walking boots? I lived in mine for a week when we went to Jersey several years ago.

I'm absolutely shocking for buying shoes Baba, but I suffer badly from sciatica (each child nudged the gatepost a bit on the way out so my pelvis is seriously askew!) and I'm a hefty lass too. I worry that the microwobble sole thing in fitflops might bugger up my back (was it the Reebok easytones that had lots of claims made from buggered backs? I dunno, it was one of them...). I think at some point I will have to invest in a pair of hikers, but I was hoping to find something inbetween-y for this time of the year (I'll only be walking around towns, parks and theme parks really).
If you think that's bad, you should see my wants and don't wants list for a pair of troosers!!!!

Sorry to hear about the sciatica Loola, maybe you should give the FitFlops a miss.
I'm not sure what else to suggest though, Earth Shoes would probably cause the same problems as the FitFlops.

Probably the same as mine - I'm rather short and curvy so trying to find trousers that actually fit is always a distressing experience.....LoolaBeanbag wrote:If you think that's bad, you should see my wants and don't wants list for a pair of troosers!!!!

Fit Flops cost a sodding fortune, I have problems with my feet and my doctor said I should get a pair. Sorry but the only shoes I'll be spending £100 on are ones I'm going to be wearing in nightclubs mate

Re: Shoe help needed!
FitFlops are expensive, but I bought a pair of the leather superboots about 3 years ago and they're still going strong despite the fact I wear them nearly every day. I think the toning claim is a pile of crap, but they are very comfortable.

I have horrible fat feet and ankles and (I'm sure there will be gasps of horror at this ) found Crocs to be the most comfy thing I've ever worn,in all honesty.Dreading the warm weather as I currently live in boots (wide fit ones!)

I have super wide feet and can only really wear shoes from Evans. Have you had a look there?
Re: Shoe help needed!
I have uber wide feet too and a really high instep - I live in chunky walking trainers. Merrell, regatta - brands like that. Have a look in one of those outdoorsy shops (blacks or millets are the only ones that come to mind) and try some out!

Re: Shoe help needed!
I would say Crocs too. You can get ones with enclosed toes which will stop any chilly issues.
Other than this I have a pair of regatta walking boots which are fantastic. But, being the pikey I am I got them from the outlet store, not the proper regatta shop.

I also adore clarks shoes. Springers are amazing, although I don't know if they make them anymore. I also have a pair of their airwalks and they are lovely. The only problem is once I start moving in them I can't stop. They seem to have some perpetual motion thing going on with the soles so it is hard to anchor up. This sounds stupid until you have worn them.
I have some like this I love [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I also have some like this which are as comfortable as anything

Also, Clarks unstructured are immense. So soft and comfy

I would be wary of having something completely flat, as naturally your foot should be on a bit of an angle, something like a1/2cm heel is perfect.

Re: Shoe help needed!
Thanks everyone, there's some great ideas there for me to look at. I'd originally disregarded Crocs (I had athletes foot once , and blamed it on the Crocs, haven't worn them since) but I really think on this occasion they might be ideal. Erm, what about Crocs and socks - I rip the P out of my mate when she does this, but I'm thinking that the Dutch a) won't report back b)have some pretty iffy tastes in footwear themselves! I do stick out a bit on holiday anyway, the Dutch seem to be tall and slim, I'm quite the opposite.

I had some enclosed crocs I wore with socks, but, I had long bootcut trousers on so they couldn't really be seen.

They do furry lining ones so you wouldn’t need socks

They sound fab. Although standing in a cold and windswept playground today thinking about next week - wellies might be just the ticket!

I had two pairs of shoes yesterday too. One pair of crocs for my birthday off my sis and another pair of cath kidston slip on pumps .
Re: Shoe help needed!
Before I broke my ankle and gave up on anything with any sort of a heel I was adventourous, but my everyday walking around shoes were Ecco and I'd till recommend them as good quality and comfortable. However I was introduced to MBTs by a physical therapist and now basically refuse to wear anything else.
I'm sure, as with everything, they are not for everyone but my back, kneck, knees and now ankle are (technical term) buggered! And MBTs are the only shoes that don't make it worse and, if anything, seem to have improved some issues. (Well they did before age started regressing things again!)
I've still not tried FlitFlops as I worry they are just a cheaper and less effective version of the same idea. But with several of you mentioning them I am now tempted to give them a go.

I've not heard of MBTs Hanspan, but I'll have a look into them.
I do fancy quite a few of the fitflop styles but am worried about the wobble. I have enough wobble going on already

MBTs are wobbly too. Bu I am very wobbly - no balance and dodgy andkles and knees and lower back and....... And MBTs seem to help rather than hinder me. I think they are basically unstable front to back, rather than side t side, so they force you to use your muscles to stay upright. This for me seems to help me not unbalance to the side so much. YMMV of course.

I've just bought a pair of Pumpkin Hotter Shake shoes. Not sure if that means I'm an old fart now?

Baba,they are beautiful.
Oh, I had a pair of airwalk from Clarks once, and I don't know what it is but I can't stop walking when I wear them, its like I get some perpetual motion thing going on. Not much fun.

Thanks Sal, I got them for just over £28 reduced from £66. I might buy a beige pair too.
