New York....
Okay, best shopping destination I have been to. Have been 4 times, twice with my husband as a romantic type break, once with my husband/mum and sister, last time with husband/mum/sister/2 s'kids.
Stopped in various hotels, and various price ranges.
Been for thanksgiving and the black friday sales. You have never seen anything like it. There were 3000 peeps standing outside Macy's waiting for it to open at 4am to get the best discounts.
For flights, if you shop around you can probably get one for about £350 from Heathrow. From a regional airport you are looking at about £450.
We have paid as much as £1000 for 6 nights accomodation, and as little as £550 for 5 nights. The first had an amazing view of the Affinia Dumont, and the second had amazing views of the Empire State
Highlight.... eating in Juniors, most amazing restaurant out or Top of The Rock. Amazing views esp at sunset.
Lowlight.... not realising that I needed to drink on the flight out and getting crippling cramp or eating next to a tramp in Wendys.

Re: New York....
Flights, where do you look or which airlines? I've only ever booked package hols with TC or similar!
Re: New York....
I have only ever booked seperately and it has done us okay. I used to book my flights with virgin directly. but the last flight we went with Continental from Birmingham as there were 6 of us going.
Search sites like Kayak and also keep an eye on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] they sometimes have some awesome deals.
If you fly to JFK it is about 60 mins transfer and costs $45 for a taxi plus tolls, plus tips ... so about $60 in total. There is a queue of about 50 taxi's outside.

Send him! I can direct him where he needs to go.
As we went with the kids I couldn't shop too much, but the first time the pound was so strong it was astonishing. We couldn't spend it.

Go, its amazing.
But don't beleive what they say in the movies. It isn't the city that never sleeps. The shops don't even open till 10 - 11!

Re: New York....
You don't need a Visa, but you need to apply for a Visa Waiver.
You get it direct from the US Government on this link
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Don't go to any other website as they will charge you more. On this one it is £10 or £12.
It lasts for two years
(I would fill it in before you book anything, just incase)
