That's pants...
Applied for a job in my uni town yesterday - they're very hard to come by and most of them are in bars which I want to avoid but this one was in my local (2 minutes from my house!) 24 hour shop and hours sounded good...
An hour after I sent my CV by email, I get a reply saying that they want to interview me tomorrow and they're very interested in seeing if I fit into the shop atmosphere. I'm not back at uni until next Saturday and it's only for 6 days, then I'm back home for a fortnight. I emailed back saying I was still very interested, but I wouldn't be there, could we do a phone interview?
Nothing. Not heard a thing. Not even a 'sorry, we need someone to start right now' reply. Sigh. Most jobs in my uni town won't even entertain you if you don't write your CV in Welsh so to actually get a reply and a positive one at that is pretty good, but honestly, does it take more than a minute to write 'We need someone to start today'?!

Give them a call - then they're on the spot with the opportunity to talk to you or put you through to the right person there & then. If this job looks like the one for you, you need to pursue it till the bitter end. Good luck

I agree with LoolaBeanbag, give them a quick call. If nothing else, it will show that you are proactive and genuinely interested in the job.
Good luck!

Is it wrong I think it is mildly bigotted that they expect you to write your application in Welsh. We are actually one nation!

That's the way it goes around North Wales unfortunately! Unless you want to work in a nightclub where they're not so picky (which I really don't want to do, as unfortunately a lot of the locals are very bigoted and rough and don't like 'the English') you're stumped if you don't speak Welsh. Even Costa wouldn't hire me because I can't speak!
They of course, will not tell you that, but the next time you go in and see the new staff and they're chatting in Welsh to their colleagues, it does raise eyebrows.
Decided it's not worth phoning as they've almost certainly found someone who could interview today and taken them. Oh well. Guess I'll stay skint til I graduate then!

Whereabouts are you kissmenow?
The Welsh language thing is just silly. Most of us Welsh people don't even speak it lol. I can say "I like the fair, especially the roller coasters" and that's about it. My dad was told a few years ago that when he answers the phone he has to answer first in Welsh and then in English, but then if the person responds in Welsh he has to tell them he can't speak Welsh and put them through to someone else who doesn't even work in his service. Very odd.

Bangor, so very North Wales! It's ridiculous around here. We get it all here; the locals especially have a vendetta against students!
Obviously there are some lovely people around here but a lot of the very old people and the young adults are horrid to us, especially if they know you're English.
