Absolutely gutted...
It's not confirmed yet but it looks 99% certain that my graduation is going to be on the same day as my sister's wedding. But 250 miles away and at the same time as the ceremony.
So upset right now... I know it's an inconsequential little ceremony and that it won't hide the fact that my degree results are likely to be shit but I've been planning for this and waiting for it since I started at uni here - no, really before I started uni here, as I dropped out of my first uni at 18, went back to college and worked my arse off to get back to uni education because I knew that I wanted my degree. Since day one I've had a photo of my sister and my parents in a frame on my desk of when she graduated and some days it's the only thing that pulled me out of bed (knowing that one day, I too would have proud parents standing beside me in a grad. gown).
It's really naff I know but... I feel crap now

Oh no is there any chance your ceremony could be transferred to the next one? Might be the year after but you'd still get your special day? Xxx

Oh no hope you manage to sort something out. I loved my graduation, such a shame the moment you have been waiting for so long is faced with difficulties.

Oh no, what a complete pain in the arse kissmenow! I would definitely enquire about switching to a different ceremony.
And I understand completely about your drive to get yourself a degree, but for what it's worth, I'm sure your family are all very proud of you anyway.

Oh no, how rubbish
I'm sure under the circumstances, your uni could change it?

Re: Absolutely gutted...
oh that sucks. I know it doesn't alter your result so technically doesn't have any affect, but it's part of the prize for working so hard. Plus we had the grad ball [I graduated in 2007 and 2009 so not that long ago]
It's always worth checking with your Uni if you can move to another graduation - I know at mine that us graduates had to submit a form as part of the graduation process, and if you were late submitting the form you didn't get to graduate on that round, having to wait for the next one. I'm sure there were graduations in Nov and March with us, so you might have a similar thing.

Re: Absolutely gutted...
I'm hoping that I can either go with the social sciences (ew, sociologists :p) as Psych is pretty close to that or go with the Masters students in November. Someone on another forum suggested I ask my sister to move her wedding ahhh, no.
Re: Absolutely gutted...
Ohh honey Im so sorry, I agree with the others though, speak to the Uni and see if it can be moved into another department.
I didn't go to my graduation, but that was through choice. I just wanted it over with really and didn't relish the idea of wearing gowns and having people take my photo (I hate having my photo taken).

Re: Absolutely gutted...
"My particular ceremony date is inconvenient. Is it possible to attend another ceremony?
It is not possible to change a ceremony date. If you cannot attend on the prescribed date you will graduate in absentia. The same thing will happen if you have said that you intend to come to the ceremony and cannot or do not for some reason."
Emailed them to check but looks like I can't even switch to another ceremony. Boo.

Re: Absolutely gutted...
No replies to my emails so I am going to go and find the actual, physical office and find out why the hell they haven't replied. And try and change my date.
Re: Absolutely gutted...
Aw, Kissmenow, I hope that if you speak to someone they'll be able to sort things out for you. Crossing my fingers for you. x

Re: Absolutely gutted...
Sorted! Graduating on the 16th of July at 11am. Spoke to a very nice lady who sorted it all out for me in an hour. Won't be with my classmates but I'll get the ceremony and cap and gown and stuff
