Depression, anxiety and mental illness are nothing to be ashamed of and are far more prevalent than many people realise.

Touching post, and something I'm all to familiar with myself. My best friends OH is a manic depressive, he is also a paraplegic. When things get very bad (and they are at the minute) he hears voices and can get violent. As he's wheelchair bound he cant hurt anyone thankfully but getting respite for my friend, his sole carer, is impossible because there is only 1 unit in the area that can cater for patients with his disability. She's had no respite for 9 months despite trying every weekend.

The care given to mental health patients is dwindling and its worrying for the wellbeing of both them and their families. Lady S you are a brave lady, and long may you continue to be xx

Ok now I'm blubbing. You have a talent for expressing your emotions Sally. In case you don't know, that's a rare talent. Most people wouldn't be brave enough to bare their soul like that, and even if they were they wouldn't be able to express themselves in such a moving way.

Very brave to share your story. I never realised how crippling anxiety could be, I suffered mildly when pregnant but it shook my whole system as it was a lot worst to my normal levels. I couldn't have coped at all if I had gone through the things you describe, you have great strength.

I cannot begin to tell anyone how it can take over your life. It dictated everything I did, all the time. But, I am in charge now, not it. So now it doesn't.

"Introduce mental health lessons into the KS3 and KS4 school curriculum Responsible department: Department for Education
We would like to introduce a unit on Mental Health into the PSHE curriculum (or similar subject) within secondary schools across the UK. The unit should educate the young people on what mental health is, what mental illness is, how it can be helped/prevented and what help and support is available to the young people.
Currently there is no focus on the issue of Mental Health within schools, because of this there is a lot of stereotyping towards people with mental illnesses, stereotyping which is not always true. We feel that if young people were to be educated on this subject within schools, not only will they be more understanding of people who may have mental illnesses but they will also be more open to seek help if they feel that they have a mental illnesses."

I suffer from depression and anxiety, although the anxiety is not so prevalent except when things are going bad for me - usually at work. I'm currently signed off with it all but have a case conference on Wed to hopefully make a plan for my return. Your courage at facing your demons has bolstered me up at just the time I need it. Thanks.
