Its all different now, but alot of my mates and I just got jobs not graduate jobs but just jobs. And just worked our way up anyway. From being a travel agent, I moved into IT with in 18 months. My mate worked as a cashier for a bank, did that for 2 years and then went through business banking, private banking etc One mate got a job as a receptionist for a clothes chain and moved into being a buyer. Actually 3 of the HR ladies at my old company were ex travel agents they trained up. Sure thats common in various industries.
So don't despair, graduate jobs are not the be all end all! - if you find an industry you want to work in, have a look at just get your foot in the door, it really doesn't take long to move and get where you want to be when you try.
Most of my mates went to Uni and got graduate jobs. One lad did his A levels and we took the P because he stayed flipping burgers at Mc Donalds.
I caught up with him at a reunion a while back and he was still working at Mc Donalds. As head of European Marketing.

Re: What's On Your Mind?
Thanks guys, I've given myself a slap around the face! I knew since christmas that I'd almost certainly get a 2:2 but seeing it officially upset me a bit... I always hoped for a 2:1. Oh well.
I've found out that one of the graduate schemes I really wanted to apply to does indeed accept 2:2 degrees so come October, I am applying for that! I'm also now having a search of other graduate schemes that may be suitable. Trouble is, I don't really want to move away.
The positive side is I DO have a job, I have my health and I have plenty of time to do the things I enjoy as well as getting experience to boost my application to grad schemes. So I need to stop moaning, lol.
Loola - out of all my friends at school, two didn't go onto uni. One of them is the county manager of a nationwide estate agents and the other was in the head offices of Currys before they went under, he's now in the head offices of LG. It can be done! I just need to remember that, lol x

Re: What's On Your Mind?
glad your feeling better about it! And if in doubt go travelling and teach english for a bit! lol
I drank my way through uni and was over joyed to get a 2.2! I remember one of the last lectures, we had personality descriptions we had to choose from. Everyone of course chose 1 of the most positive 2. Turns out they were horoscope sign descriptions and we were told psychology is subjective, you can't measure much as each person has different experiences to the next which makes prediction impossible and its all you can't judge how a human will behave. Its a science built on maybes and not facts. I was rather shocked by that lecture!

Re: What's On Your Mind?
Sorry guys, I didn't mean to sound so dramatic I'm just having a tough time with work at the moment. I've spent over ten years with my partner building up a successful business trying to ensure our future is secure and now I just don't know anymore. You know when you think you're on an even keel and have everything under control and then suddenly it just feels as though the rug has been ripped out from under your feet.....

I'm hoping to go to the garden centre in Chard a bit later and have a lovely cream tea.

What a fucking afternoon I've had, discovered three babies in Pixie's cage today!
My stepdad said he heard squeaking in the cage on Thursday and she's not really been out since then so we reckon they must be two or three days old!

Oh wow, so you got four hamsters for the price of one then!?!? I'll be looking forward to the photos.
Do you think the pet shop knew Pixie was pregnant when you bought her?

No photos for a couple of weeks I'm afraid, Pixie's keeping them undercover!
Pet shop said they didn't know and that she came from a different breeder (that they won't be using again lol!).

I'm still feeling a bit up and down to be honest. We're back in the office on Wednesday and that will be when the muck will really hit the fan.

Re: What's On Your Mind?
I'm feeling irritable today.
I'm stuck in the office, the weather is crap and we've had no internet connection at home since Tuesday. We went to see the England vs New Zealand Twenty20 cricket match last night and only saw two balls before it was rained off.

I'm annoyed that I got defeated at haggling at the toot market. And that I'm coming home tomorrow.
