Nope, I didn't use a file. I did use a base coat designed for use with holos (one that came with a Virgin Vie holo), but even with that base coat all the other holos I've used have been more difficult to apply than the Layla one. When I try the other Layla one I got for Xmas (Flash Black) I'll use a normal base coat, see if it makes any difference and report back.

Scrangie reckons they're no different to any other nail buffers. What do you think?

I'd be happy to have a go with one and report back if it'll help others decide whether they're useful. Has anyone else tried the files?

I haves used the file and it was fab to get rid of staining and made my nails smooth and lovely but I haven't tried it with a halo yet. With the dull weather I didn't see much point yet....

I have one ( Lady S kindly popped one in with my last order - thank you!) but I haven't tried it yet - are nails supposed to be buffed to gloss before putting the holo on? I always glass-buff nails before I put my polish/base on, my nails are so dry and in poor condition if left to their own devices. I buff with the roughest to smooth cracks/flaky bits, then smooth, then rub a little Occitane shea butter in and buff buff buff. I also sometimes use carnate as well. I only do this to help the condition of my nails, it really seems to help. I think the dryness is down to an anhydrous (moisture/water zapping) drug that I have to take, not down to polish/remover abuse!

Thanks xoxo. It piqued my interest because I thought I remembered someone on here saying it removed most of the staining on their nails..........

Pale holos, especially the GOSH one I was so excited to get! It was fab on a sunny Mediterranean beach, fully holographic and mega shiny (and it even lasted 4 days without peeling) - but here, in overcast London, it's just chalky and blah. Actually, I'm not just disappointed, I really dislike it. I'll keep it for the next summer holiday, though!

Darker holos are fine, especially if worn over a dark polish, the chalkiness is minimal to non-existent.

I found Nubar Reclaim a tad disappointing. It's really pretty but not quite as holo as I'd hoped.

Another vote for Kleancolor Chunk Black Holo. I saw it in some sort of photo collage thing and needed it desperately. So I did some googling to find out what it was, then paid far too much for shipping, and I was SO disappointed with it Sad I know I need to give it another chance, but I just can't face the heart break again...

St George Sad

It's utterly stunning. BUT.

I've had it on for less than 24 hours and all my nail tips are chipped, there's a few bare patches on a couple of nails where it's scrapped off this morning, the brush was really hard to use (didn't fan out at all and felt really cheap!) and it's stained half my fingers. Mad Sad

I'll use it again at some point, but for a first time use I'm so disappointed, especially as I'd been wanting it for AGES!

Well, and I hate to say this, but some of you may be aware that I was lusting after HITS rocker chic for some time. Well I hate it. Formula is too thick and it applys horrible and is generally disappointing. Humph. Was going to blog about it but may not now...

Another one: Max Factor Fantasy Fire.

I saw this in the shop before I'd heard anything about it online (I think it was before I started my blog, so I wasn't reading blogs as often), and fell instantly in love. I could barely wait until I got home to get it on my nails! But when I did...oh the disappointment. A zillion coats to get it opaque and far more blue on the nail than in the bottle. I know I should try it again with undies, but....sigh...see issues above about heartbreak.

A England - Dragon.
Looks so pretty in the bottle, but it just didn't look good on my nail. Really... dusty? If that makes sense. It also chipped after only a day, which surprised me. A bit disappointed as I'd wanted it for a while. I also picked up St George which I've yet to try, so hopefully I like that one more.

Good Very Happy It does look incredible in the bottle, and it's one of my favourite colours, so I have high hopes for it. I think I might like Dragon more if I do a gradient with it & St George, must try that out soon.

The swatches look awkward as hell. Not loving it sorry- looks like splashes of highlighter pen.
Does it need thinning?

Hahahahar, did you see my post last night under what are you wearing today?!!!!! This polish is a total b'stard and I had the same problem as you with the glitter and a few more besides. It looked so awful when I'd finished and even with a generous coat of Seche lots of the bigger glitter hunks fell off during the day leaving craters on my nails. I took it off before I went out earlier tonight as I couldn't bear looking at it any longer, but the removal was a 'mare too, even with the foil method I had to chisel the remaining glitter off. Good luck there shoppingaddict, I'd love to hear how it looks when it's on from a more skilled user than myself (if that makes sense). Wink
